Caveats: An asterisk (*) after a name indicates a duplicate record, to make it easier to quickly scan a first name. Regarding the Kay DVD references: Kay Braswell Dawson provided to anyone who asked, her DVD containing .jpg pictures of the pages of Braswell/Bracewell records; she stated anyone was free to use the information without her express consent. Kay did not provide the exact source/reference for any of her .jpg images, so the records shown with only her DVD as a source is not in reality an original source. At a later time, the .jpg image will be added to this timeline, to give additional credibility to the records in this timeline. In the instances that the exact source and page number is shown on the .jpg, it is so noted.

This timeline was generated from my research over the years, from different sources, as indicated. My research is shared as a labor of love to give new researchers at least a starting point in a particular county; it is not perfect. It is up to the researcher to check the information and obtain copies of the original records, if they so wish. This timeline has not been proofed against the original copy; however, with 45+ years of typing, I am usually pretty accurate.

Underling and bolding in most instances is added to aid in quick perusal of the material.

Subject: Re: WILLIAM BRASWELL's legal problems, 1719‑1720 (Concluded)
Dear Cousins,
The following exerpts from "Colonial Court Papers, Civil and Criminal Papers ‑ 1711‑1719" (CCR 149 ‑ Folder 1719) NC State Archives, Raleigh, may help explain WILLIAM's assault on Constable RICHARD WASHINGTON:
The Information of ESTHER KIRBY taken this 23d Janry 1718/9. This Informt Saith that on the 16th of this Inst Wm BRASSWELL came to her house & Deliverd two Publicke Bills of ys Province one for ffifteen Pounds & the other for Eight Pound and Desired she would Carry them down to Court to Col Moseley & gett them changed for Smaler Biles (if they were good) but if not to return them to him again. And the sd BRASSWELL said he receivd' them from one JOSEPH DURDEN. ESTHER KIRBY
(RICHARD WASHINGTON attested to the foregoing immediately following.) On January 29, 1718/19, Governor Charles Eden sent "The Deputy Marshal or Constable for the Westerne Shore of Chowan" an order to arrest Wm BRASSEL and JOSEPH DARDEN for having "lately utered Several forged Biles of Credit of this Province".
